Steve Mills
Steve Mills was born in Boston in 1959. A year round resident of the Vineyard in his childhood, his teenaged years were divided between the Vineyard and Walpole, MA until graduating Bridgewater State College in 1982. Since then, Jacksonville, Florida has been his off island home. Spending all or a part of each year on the Vineyard for the past 40 years has given him a keen awareness and sensitivity to its surroundings that is reflected in his work. Showing with the Granary Gallery for 20 years, highlighted by one gallery opening being sold out within minutes, has established him as one of the gallery’s perennial favorites for collectors. Coupled with his New York, SoHo gallery representation, his work has become internationally recognized. His attention to detail, understanding of colors and shadows, ability to transpose from the palette to the canvas, and depth of perception make his paintings extremely realistic and appealing, at times tempting the viewers to want to reach out and touch what they can’t believe actually is just paint. Mills now paints mostly in oils, but has worked in acrylic, watercolor, pen & ink and graphite, receiving many commissions in all of these media.
