Mary Sipp Green Works

Mary Sipp Green

Mary Sipp Green is a landscape painter living and working in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts. While her preferred medium has always been oil on linen, her methods, techniques, and aesthetic aims have all undergone significant transformations since she first began.

As a young painter, Mary learned her craft in the studio, painting still-lifes and portraits, as well as landscapes drawn directly from nature. Over time, she became increasingly engaged with more abstract and spiritual aspects of the landscape form and began to pursue a less

representational, more expressive style.

Each painting begins with preliminary sketches and color notes recorded on site, but the work itself takes shape in Mary’s studio, after a meditative interval of temporal and spatial distance that allows memory and emotion to guide the work.

“I think of my paintings, which are situated between abstraction and recognizable form, as explorations in beauty and the spiritual presence found in nature.”

Mary’s work has most recently been exhibited in Palm Beach,FL, Stockbridge, MA and on Martha’s Vineyard.
