Illumination by Diana Van Nes
Diana van Nes “Democracy is based upon the conviction that there are extraordinary possibilities in ordinary people.” – Harry Emerson Fosdi Born in Connecticut in 1947, Diana made her first visit to Martha’s Vineyard with friends in the 1950’s. To her, the island, the ferry, the names – Tea Lane, Old Dirt Road – were wondrous curiosities. Diana continued to visit the Vineyard in the summertime aboard her father-in-law’s yawl Petrel. Her remembrances and continued observations of the island are firmly rooted in her art. Diana began her formal study of art at Purchase College in Purchase, New York, in 1990, when her own two children left for school. She has served on the board of the Chappaqua Artists Guild and her award winning work has been exhibited in galleries and juried shows throughout the Northeast. She has received much support for recent shows from her children, Christian and Alexandra, and from many friends. Her work is in numerous public and private collections. She finds inspiration for her art from found objects and from the quiet gestures of human integrity. Diana van Nes passed away in July of 2011.
