Flying Ballet by Don Wilks
Don Wilks

A resident of Martha’s Vineyard for over 28 years, Don Wilks is a sculptorworking in in wire, wax, welding metals and clay. Don began his studies with sculptor Peter Pacquette, who taught him the techniques of working with clay and metal, as well as welding, soldering and shaping rigid materials. He continued his training at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston, under the guidance of Boston sculptor Pablo Eduardo, and is honored to have studied under Frank Eliscu, an internationally known sculptor who has many important commissions to his credit, including the Heisman trophy.

Each of Don’s sculptures is cast in bronze at the Bronzart Foundry in Sarasota, Florida, and at the New England Sculpture Service in Boston. The edition limits are between seven and twelve pieces to ensure that the detail of each piece is properly rendered. Don says, “For me, the action and interaction of the body is the primary force that I try to convey. To achieve this I am continually working on my techniques and knowledge of the anatomy, body motion and fluidity.”

Don’s work can be seen in fine art galleries on Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, in Boston and in Vero Beach, Florida. Don is a member of the National Sculpture Society.
